I
went kind of overboard making maki one evening, didn't
I? Fifteen pieces, five each of avocado
maki, crab
maki, and shiitake
maki. This looks like more work than it was, as
the rice is easy to cook and I already had the shiitake
mushrooms left over from a batch of chirashi-zushi.
Then there's slices of baked Japanese sweet potato,
edamame, and some coconut
mochi. The mochi was an experiment that turned out
successfully, unlike my earlier effort which I dubbed
"mochi brittle."
Wow. For once I packed an almost-completely-traditional
bento lunch! Maybe it's completely traditional; I don't
know if sweet potatoes are a usual lunch filler.
Wanna talk
about it?
