Doujinshi commentary: Vivi Ornitier's Book

Circle:    Seventh Heaven    Vivi Ornitier's Book: Back Cover
Type:   Normal, gags & serious story. 38 pages.
Date:   2001/12/29

Here is the last of the Final Fantasy 9 books I know Seventh Heaven has produced. The title translates more as "Vivi Ornitier's Diary," as seen in the daily journal type pages inside the book. Note that the cover image I've included is actually the back cover, not the front; I couldn't resist the "Wizard of Oz" parody. The front cover is a simpler image of Vivi riding a broom, with a doll-sized replica hanging onto the bristles.

The gags in this story include some different art styles from those I've seen in other Seventh Heaven books. There are scrawly MS-paint-like illustrations for the pages of Vivi's diary (Puck as Mickey Mouse?), and then a simpler, cartoonier look for another few gags about alternate pairings for the weddings in Conde Petie. Other gags include a "Final Oz" story - see the cover - with Garnet, in her White Mage robe, as Oz; Vivi, Garnet, and Eiko working furiously to produce - a doujinshi version of his diary, perhaps? And then there's one in which Vivi runs out of the bath exclaiming that Zidane has two tails...

The serious story is a conversation between Zidane and Vivi. It begins with images from Garland's revelation of Zidane's origin, continues as Zidane unburdens himself to Vivi, and ends on a lighthearted note, with Zidane carrying Vivi on his shoulders. Somewhere along the line it appears that Zidane got mixed up with the shikon jewel - maybe a shard of that is what enables him to go into trance? ;)
