Edamame, literally "beans on branches,"
is the edible vegetable form of soybeans.
They are surprisingly ordinary-looking, much
like small pole bean pods. You can find bags
of edamame, boiled and ready for consumption, in the
frozen foods section of Asian groceries, and sometimes
in the frozen or health food sections of regular grocery
stores. In this form the seeds can be eaten as snacks.
Just squeeze behind the seeds and they'll pop out of
the pod. With a little practice you'll be able to do
this without zinging them across the room.
